Thigh Lift Surgery
A thigh lift is a
surgical procedure to
remove skin and fat from
the thighs to tighten the
skin and improve the
contour of the legs. A
thigh lift may also be
performed in combination
with another type of
surgery, for instance in
combination with an arm
lift.
Thigh lift surgery can
markedly improve the
appearance of your legs.
The combined effects of
aging, gravity,
fluctuations in weight,
and a loss of skin
elasticity all contribute
to loss of tone in the
thighs as we age.
Dr. Fortes approaches
thigh lifts to meet your
specific needs. This
means adequately
assessing the amount of
excess skin and fat that
needs to be removed. Each
of these components will
determine which procedure
is best for you. With
only mild skin and fat
excess confined to the
inner thigh region and
good skin elasticity, you
may be a candidate for a
minimal incision
approach. As the
preoperative condition
worsens in severity, the
incisions required to
obtain proper correction
must be larger. For the
most severe type of
hanging skin conditions,
a circumferential
incision may be required.
Thigh lift candidates
If your inner thighs are
very big and have a lot
of fatty tissue it might
be best to do liposuction
first to get rid of as
much of the excess tissue
as possible. After a few
months we reevaluate the
inner thigh to see if you
will benefit from a thigh
lift. In some cases, a
thigh lift is
recommended.
If the skin of the inner
thigh sags or is droopy,
a thigh lift is ideal as
it will tighten up the
skin and smoothen the
contour of the inner
thigh. Patients who have
lost a lot of weight are
also ideal candidates for
an inner thigh lift,
usually done in
combination with other
cosmetic surgery
procedures.
Thigh lift recovery
Recuperation for thigh
lift surgery is usually
1-2 weeks. Patients
should plan to take 7-10
days off from work.
If you are planning a
future pregnancy or
anticipate a significant
loss of weight in the
future, it is probably
best to postpone your
thigh lift until after
these events have
occurred to optimize your
results.
Following thigh lift
surgery, many patients
experience an immediate
improvement in their
self-esteem and discover
a greater
self-confidence. In
addition, many also find
greater access to
different clothing styles
and fashions and are less
self-conscious at the
gym, around the pool, or
at the beach.
