Body Contouring after
Gastric Bypass Surgery
With the growing popularity
of gastric
bypass surgery as treatment for obesity,
plastic surgery and body
contouring after
significant weight loss has
become a focus of Dr.
Busselberg’s practice.
After developing an
interest in this highly
specialized area of plastic
surgery, he now dedicates
much of his practice to
this challenging and rewarding
group of patients.
By applying the latest
techniques in body
sculpting individualized to
each patient’s specific
needs, Dr.
Busselberg can help you
realize the new shape that
is hidden beneath the
excess skin that has been
left now that your goal
weight has been achieved.
Excessive skin from
significant weight loss
With significant weight loss over a relatively short period of time
(usually 15-18 months), the remaining skin often does
not retain the elastic qualities necessary to shrink back down to your
new underlying shape. This often leaves patients with excessive amounts of hanging skin that creates a
multitude of problems such as daily hygiene and finding clothes that fit properly.
A comprehensive approach to
bariatric patients is
necessary to achieve your
optimal figure following
significant and sudden weight loss. One of the
most important
considerations for a
plastic surgeon to realize
is that a bariatric patient
must be treated differently
from non-bariatric body
contouring patients. What
has worked well on other patients
may not provide
adequate shaping and
contouring for bariatric patients.
After your body
contouring surgery
You will notice an
improvement in your body
contour immediately.
However, your shape will
continue to improve in the
following weeks as the mild
swelling subsides. You
should be up and walking
the day following surgery,
although you will be sore
for several days. You
should be able to resume
your normal daily
activities within several
days following surgery, and
you should be able to
resume all of your physical
activities within three to
four weeks of surgery.
If you have undergone
gastric bypass, lap-band or
weight loss surgery, have
reached your goal weight,
and are interested in
removing excess skin or
body contouring procedures

Tummy
Tuck Tummy tuck procedures are
designed to return the
abdomen muscles to a tight
position after they've
been sagging and excess
skin has accumulated with
fatty tissue. Stretched
beyond the capacity to
return to normal, these
tissues will also fail to
respond to exercise or diet
programs.

Breast
Augmentation
Breast augmentation is a
surgical technique that has
been around for over a half
century. In this cosmetic
surgical technique, a
patient is able to enhance
the size and shape of their
breast tissue through the
implementation of breast
implants. Breast implants
typically utilize saline, a
saltwater solution,
although some implants use
silicone. In this surgery,
the breast implants are
added to increase the size
of a patient's breast
tissue.

Breast
Lift Over the years, factors
such as weight loss, pregnancy, nursing,
and the force of gravity
take their toll on a
woman's breasts. As the
skin loses its elasticity,
the breasts often lose
their shape and firmness
and begin to sag. Breast
lift, or mastopexy, is a
surgical procedure to raise
and reshape sagging
breasts.

Liposuction
Liposuction is the most
commonly performed plastic
surgery procedure. It is
ideally suited to eliminate
bulges of fat from
different areas of the body
with minimal scarring and
quick recovery times. When
done properly it is easily
tolerated and very safe.
Although the amount of
weight loss is not
remarkable, because the fat
is taken from targeted
areas, the changes in body
contour can be dramatic.

Arm
Lift With the effects of time
and frequently following
weight loss, both men and
women can lose skin tone.
This loss of tone can be
very obvious as excessive,
hanging skin on the
underside of the arm. The
excessive skin is sometimes
associated with fat
deposits in these areas as
well. In some individuals,
the underside of their arms
may appear more full than
they would like and this
may be because of excessive
fat.

Thigh
Lift
This surgical
procedure removes skin
and fat from the thighs to
tighten the skin and
improve the contour of the
legs.
Thigh lift surgery can
markedly improve the
appearance of your legs.
The combined effects of
aging, gravity,
fluctuations in weight, and
a loss of skin elasticity
all contribute to loss of
tone in the thighs as we
age.
